FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 16, 2007 Lions sign junior college guard from Mineral Area College Joplin, Mo. - Missouri Southern basketball coach Robert Corn has announced the signing of Tony Webb to a national letter of intent to attend Southern and play basketball for the Lions in the fall of 2007. Webb, a 6'2 shooting guard from Poplar Bluff, Mo., played at Mineral Area for coach Corey Tate. As a freshman in 2006, Webb played with his cousin, and current Lion TJ Britton, scoring 12.1 points per game, while pulling in 3.2 rebounds and assists, and earning all-region and all-american honors. This past season, Webb averaged nine points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals, while shooting 39 percent from the three point line, helping the Cardinals to a 23-10 record. A three-year starter at Poplar Bluff High School, Webb was a three-time all-conference selection and two time all-state pick. A McDonald's All-American nominee, he lettered three times in football and was an all-conference selection twice. He is the school's all-time leading scorer in basketball and holds the record for most receiving yards in a season and career, as well as career receptions. |
