Men's Soccer Lions conclude season with 7-0 loss to Northeastern State

Jared Cleland and Ludinei Filho each scored two goals the Northeastern State Redmen handed the Missouri Southern Lions a season-ending 7-0 loss Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 2) in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Lions finish the season 5-14-0 overall, with a 3-11-0 mark in the Southwest Soccer Conference.

Lucas Correa started the scoring for NSU (9-10-0, 7-7-0 SSC) by scoring at the 25:52 mark from 25 yards out off an assist from Ryan Tanner to give NSU a 1-0 lead.

Cleland scored the first of his two goals less than four minutes later on a Paul Marshall helper, along with the first of three Correa assists on the afternoon to give the Redmen a two goal lead into halftime.

NSU then exploded for five goals in the second half to surge to the victory over the Lions.

Overall, the Lions were out-shot by the Redmen 18-5 and 13-3 on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) ended a fine 2005 campaign for the Lions by making six saves, which gives him 140 for the season and 359 for his career, which is an all-time record at Southern.

Even though the Lions finished nine games under .500, they more than doubled than win total from 2004 (2) and posted wins over No. 20-ranked Rockhurst (1-0, Sept. 3) and then SSC-leader West Texas A&M (3-0, Oct. 23).
