Lions play St. Mary's to double-overtime scoreless draw

Missouri Southern senior goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) recorded 12 saves and helped the Lions play the St. Mary's (Texas) Rattlers to a scoreless draw in the final match of the Missouri Southern Invitational Tournament Sunday afternoon (Aug. 27) at Hal Bodon Field.

The Lions defense held the Rattlers without a goal through regulation and the two overtime periods despite being out-shot 19-8, including 12-5 in shots on goal.

The match was physical and intense throughout, resulting in a total of six yellow cards, four for the Lions and two for St. Mary's.

Senior Seth Creed (Webb City, Mo.), junior Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) and freshman Mike Bayless (Lansing, Kan.) each led the Lions with two shot attempts, with both of Bayless's shots being on goal.

Kris Sumpter and Jonathon Gray each led the Rattlers with four shots on goal each.

Goalkeeper Brett Collier recorded five saves in the match for St. Mary's.

The Lions resume action Saturday (Sept. 1) with a non-conference date in Rolla, Mo. against the Missouri-Rolla Miners. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
