Lions fall at Missouri-Rolla, 1-0

ROLLA, MO. -- Missouri-Rolla's Nick Landon scored the game's only goal off an assist on a corner kick from Justin Lightner in the 31st minute of action as the UMR Miners knocked off the Missouri Southern Lions 1-0 Friday night (Sept. 1) in Rolla, Mo.

Senior goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) recorded four saves for the Lions, while goalkeeper Mike McNamee made six stops for UMR.

Southern (0-2-1) was out-shot 15-12 overall in the match, but held a 7-5 shots-on-goal advantage. 

Jared Prater (Springfield, Mo.), Seth Creed (Webb City, Mo.) and Austin Whiles (Overland Park, Kan.) each led the Lions with two shots-on-goal, respectively.

Rolla's Dan Gravlin registered five shots, while Landon had three shots, including the game-winning tally for the Miners (1-2-0).

MSSU will open up Southwest Soccer Conference action one week from tonight by traveling to Wichita Falls, Texas for a match at preseason SSC favorite Midwestern State.  The scheduled start time for the match is Friday (Sept. 8) at 7 p.m.
