Lions lose 1-0 at Eastern New Mexico

Portales, N.M. -- Jackson Donnell put the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on the board with a goal off an assist from Keith Vargas in the 18th minute of play, and that proved to be all the Greyhounds needed to defeat Missouri Southern 1-0 in Southwest Soccer Conference action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 17) in Portales, N.M.

The Greyhounds (2-4-1, 1-2 SSC) victory marks the first home win by either team in the two squads all-time series.

Overall, the Lions (0-6-1, 0-3 SSC) were out-shot 11-3, including 5-1 in shots-on-goal.  However, Lions goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made three outstanding saves, including stopping a penalty kick to keep the Lions close throughout.

Haight finished the match with four saves against 11 shots.

Ben Pantzlaff (Omaha, Neb.), Dushan Gorechan (Wichita, Kan.) and Lucas Merino (Neosho, Mo.) each registered one shot for Southern, with Pantzlaff recording a shot-on-goal.

ENMU goalkeeper Leif Craddock made one stop for the Greyhounds.

Missouri Southern will next return home to host NAIA member John Brown (Ark.) Wednesday night (Sept. 20) at Hal Bodon Field.  The match is slated for 6 p.m.
