Brown to 1-1 tie The Lions overall record now stands at 0-6-2 (0-3, SSC), while the Golden Eagles, an NAIA school located in Siloam Springs, Ark, are 3-2-2 on the season. Lucas Merino (Neosho, Mo.) found a loose ball about five yards in front of the net and managed to score the Lions' first goal of the season and give Southern a 1-0 lead in the first half. MSSU goalkeeper Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) made it stand until JBU's Michael Roberts found the net at the 52:04 mark of the second half to even the score 1-1. The defenses on both sides tightened up and held off any scoring opportunity from that point. Hansen was outstanding in his first career start for the Lions after sitting out last year as a redshirt. Hansen made seven saves against 13 shots attempts. JBU goalkeeper Glen Goodner also turned in a solid night by making five stops while facing 19 shots. Overall, the Lions out-shot the Golden Eagles 19-13, but JBU held a 8-6 edge in shots-on-goal. Missouri Southern will remain at home and face another non-conference opponent when the Truman Bulldogs visit Hal Bodon Field on Friday night (Sept. 22). The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
