FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Strong second half leads to Lions second straight win Joplin, Mo. --Lucas Merino (Neosho, Mo.) scored his second goal of the season in the second half and Lions goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made a spectacular penalty kick stop to help propel Missouri Southern to its second straight win, 1-0 over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers Tuesday evening (Sept. 26) at Hal Bodon Field. The Lions (2-6-2, 0-3 SSC) turned in a strong second half performance after a somewhat sluggish first half of play. Southern was out-shot 6-2 in the first half, but came back to hold a 12-6 shots advantage in the second half and 14-12 overall. The Tigers (3-5-0) had a 6-5 shots-on-goal advantage in the match. Merino's goal came in the 61st minute of play from 10 yards out off a deflection to put the Lions on top. Haight made sure it would hold up by saving his second penalty kick attempt of the season, this time by OBU's Ross Ellis in the 70th minute of action to maintain the Lions' lead. Haight, the reigning Southwest Soccer Conference Player of the Week, wound up with six saves in the match, while the Tigers' Kale Kammer made four stops. Dushan Gorechan (Wichita, Kan.) led the Lions with four shot-attempts and three shots-on-goal. Missouri Southern will look to continue its current three-match unbeaten streak with an SSC matchup at Northeastern State on Tuesday (Oct. 3). The match is slated for 3 p.m. in Tahlequah, Okla.
