Lions fall behind early and lose 1-0 at Colorado State - Pueblo

Pueblo, Co.. -- The Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves scored early in the match and controlled the tempo throughout and hung on for their third straight win, 1-0 win over the visiting Missouri Southern Lions Sunday (Oct. 8).

David Fresquez scored less than nine minutes into a rainy contest off an assist from Noah Leners in what proved to be the game-winning tally for the ThunderWolves.

The Lions managed to stay in the match despite being out-shot by CSU-Pueblo 23-7 overall and 9-4 on-goal.

In addition to the shots advantage, CSU-Pueblo (8-4-1) also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made eight saves to keep Southern close. David Winchell made four stops for the ThunderWolves.

Brett Kohler (Waterloo, Ill.) and Jared Prater (Springfield, Mo.) led the Lions (3-8-2) with two shots, with Kohler recording both of his shots on-goal.

Missouri Southern will now remain at home for the final five matches of the 2006 regular season. The Lions will next play host to West Texas A&M Friday night (Oct. 13) in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup beginning at 5 p.m. at Hal Bodon Field.
