Lions battle Northeastern State to 0-0 tie

Joplin, Mo.. -- Jared Prater (Springfield, Mo.) had a shot hit the crossbar and then Dushan Gorechan (Wichita, Kan.) narrowly missed putting it back in with a header as Missouri Southern played the Northeastern State Redmen to a 0-0 tie Wednesday night in action in the Southwest Soccer Conference (Oct. 18) at Hal Bodon Field.

For the Lions, it is their second consecutive draw after tying Eastern New Mexico 1-1 on Sunday (Oct. 15).  The Redmen tied for the second time in three matches after also playing ENMU to a draw on Saturday (Oct. 14).

NSU's best scoring chance came with 2:20 left in regulation as a shot-attempt from Ryan Tanner just sailed high over the net.

The Lions (3-9-4, 0-5-2 SSC) managed to dictate tempo for much of the match and out-shot NSU 16-11 overall.  But it was the Redmen who enjoyed the most scoring opportunities by out-shooting Southern 6-3 on-goal.

Travis Haight stopped six shots for MSSU, while Ransone Rose recorded three saves for NSU (9-3-5, 4-0-3 SSC).

Gorechan led the Lions with four shot-attempts in the match, with Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) adding three shots.  Jason Ervin paced the Redmen with four shots.

Missouri Southern will continue its season-ending home stand and celebrate Senior Night by hosting the No. 13-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs on Friday night (Oct. 20) at 7 p.m.

The Mustangs defeated the Lions 5-0 in the season's first matchup and are 13-2-1 overall and 5-1 in the SSC.
