FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions fall to 13th ranked Midwestern State, 4-0 Joplin, Mo.. -- The No. 13-ranked Midwestern State (Texas) Mustangs scored a pair of goals in each half and defeated the Missouri Southern Lions 4-0 in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup Friday night (Oct. 20) at Hal Bodon Field. The Lions conclude SSC play with an 0-6-2 conference record and a 3-10-4 overall mark, while the Mustangs improve to 6-1 in the SSC and 14-2-1 overall. Daniel Brown found the net in the 17th minute of action to put the Mustangs up 1-0 off an assist from Brandon Swartzendruber. Swartzendruber's shot appeared as if it was going to go in, but Brown took no chances and hammered it through in front of the net. Swartzendruber also assisted on the Mustangs second goal on a score by Sun Potter to give Midwestern a two-goal advantage heading into halftime. Ahmad Ihmeidan scored on a penalty kick attempt in the 55th minute for the Mustangs' third goal of the night. Tyler Murphy scored an unassisted goal in the 81st minute to round out the scoring. The Mustangs controlled the match throughout and out-shot Southern 21-6 overall and 11-2 on-goal. Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made four saves for the Lions before giving way to Jon Hansen, who recorded one save. Jeremy Turner stopped two shots for Midwestern. Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) played the final 1:05 in the net and made one save for Southern. Mike Bayless (Lansing, Kan.) led Southern with two shot-attempts, while Swartzendruber paced the Mustangs with five shots. Missouri Southern will conclude the 2006 season by hosting the Drury Panthers in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night (Oct. 24) at 6 p.m.
