Lions conclude 2006 season with 2-1 loss to Drury

Joplin, Mo.. -- Chris Anzalone scored a goal in the eighth minute of each half to give the Drury Panthers a 2-1 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions in the Lions' final match of the 2006 season Tuesday night (Oct. 24) at Hal Bodon Field.

Senior Pat Kelley, playing in the final match of his career, scored Southern's goal by successfully booting in a penalty kick in the 56th minute of the match.

Despite the loss, the Lions managed to out-shoot the Panthers 16-9, but the shots-on-goal were even at 6-6.

Senior goalkeeper Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the Lions all-time leader in saves and goalkeeper minutes, recorded four saves in his final match for Southern. 

Michael Lassen made five stops in the match for the Panthers.

Jared Prater (Springfield, Mo.) and Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) led the Lions with four shot-attempts. 

Anzalone and Tyson Bramley paced the Panthers with three shots apiece. 

After starting the season 0-7-1, the Lions were able to end the season on a bit of a high note over their final 10 matches of the season. 

The Lions finished the year 3-4-3, including a win over NCAA Division II participant Truman and a scoreless tie against the Northeastern State Redmen, who came into the match ranked No. 5 in the Midwest Region.
