FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions take charge in second half, defeat Harding 3-0 Joplin, Mo.. -- Mike Bayless handed out two assists as the Missouri Southern Lions took control of a scoreless game in the second half by running off three straight goals and won their second straight to begin the 2007 season, 3-0 over the Harding Bisons Sunday (Aug. 26) at Hal Bodon Field. Tied 0-0 at the half, the Lions did not waste any time getting untracked in the second, as Bayless found Ben Pantzlaff in front of the net for the first score of the day in just the second minute of the half. Four minutes later, Bayless struck again, this time heading a ball at the net that Dushan Gorechan headed in to put the Lions up by two scores. Southern (2-0) capped a great day with a spectacular play as Blake Wright won the ball at midfield, dribbled through traffic and fed a cutting Austin Whiles who hammered the ball through the net for the Lions' third and final goal of the day. The Lions controlled the match throughout, out-shooting the Bisons 22-10 overall, including a 15-6 edge in the deciding second half. Southern held a 12-8 advantage in shots-on-goal. MSSU goalkeeper Jon Hansen enjoyed another solid outing, making eight saves. James Thurmond started the match in the net for HU (0-2) and played the entire first half before giving way to Andrew Flesher to begin the second half. Thurmond recorded four saves, while Flesher made five stops but allowed the three scores. Next up for the Lions is a trip to Kirksville, Mo. to face Missouri-Rolla on Saturday (Sept. 1) at 11 a.m., followed by a date at Truman on Sunday (Sept. 2) at 2 p.m.
