Joplin, Mo.. -- Ryan McClanahan
scored a goal in the opening minutes of each half to lead the Eastern
New Mexico Greyhounds to a 2-0 victory over the Missouri Southern Lions
in the Southwest Soccer Conference opener for both squads Friday night
(Sept. 7) at a rainy Fred Hughes Stadium. The match was played at Hughes
due to the large amounts of rain received at Hal Bodon Field.
McClanahan's first score came early in the first half on a penalty kick
in the fifth minute to put the Greyhounds (3-1, 1-0 SSC) on the board.
The match stayed that way until McClanahan found the net again early in
the second half off a feed from Keith Vargas for ENMU's second goal just
three minutes after halftime.
The Lions (2-3, 0-1 SSC) failed to crack the scoreboard despite enjoying
an 8-5 edge in shot-attempts.
Goalkeeper Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) made one save for Southern, while
Leif Craddock stopped two shots for the Greyhounds.
Ryan Morris (Topeka, Kan.) and Austin Whiles (Overland Park, Kan.) led
the Lions with two shots each.
MSSU will remain at home for another SSC duel against West Texas A&M on
Sunday (Sept. 9) at 1 p.m.
