Lions suffer 1-0 setback to West Texas A&M

. -- MSSU Goalkeeper Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) recorded a career-high nine saves, but it wasn't enough as the West Texas A&M Buffs defeated the Missouri Southern Lions 1-0 in Southwest Soccer Conference action Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9) at Fred Hughes Stadium.

Both squads were forced to play short-handed for over half of the match, as the Buffs' Tommy Nutter received a red card in the ninth minute of play and Southern's Jared Prater was ejected after receiving his second yellow card in the 39th minute.

The lone goal of the match came early in the second half as Rene Gomez kicked in a goal from close in off an assist from Aaron Thornton in the 64th minute of play.

Hansen's eight saves kept the Lions (2-4, 0-2 SSC) in the match despite being out-shot 19-4 overall and 10-2 on-goal.

Goalie Shane Taylor made two stops for the Buffs (3-0, 2-0 SSC).

MSSU will return to action next Friday night (Sept. 14) as they will host non-conference foe Dana College at 7 p.m.
