FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern finishes with 1-1 tie against Northeastern State Joplin, Mo.. -- The Missouri Southern Lions and Northeastern State Riverhawks scored goals just under eight minutes apart in the first half, but neither squad could muster any more offense and played to a 1-1, double-overtime draw in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup Wednesday night (Oct. 3) at Hal Bodon Field. The Lions (3-6-2, 0-3-1 SSC) grabbed the early lead when Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) put in a shot from 15 yards out at the 14:19 mark of the first half. NSU (4-6-1, 1-2-1 SSC) answered nearly eight minutes later as Sam Morris scored off an assist from Austin Bray that tied the match in the 22nd minute. That would be all the scoring for the night as neither team could put one in the net from that point. The Riverhawks out-shot the Lions 15-10 overall, including a 4-1 edge in the two overtime periods. Jon Hansen (Topeka, Kan.) made four saves for the Lions and Devon Murray stopped five shots for NSU. Next up for Southern is a non-conference contest at Drury on Sunday (Oct. 7) at 5 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
