Lions win 3-1 at Northeastern State

Box Score

Tahlequah, Okla.
-- Missouri Southern goalkeeper Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) recorded a career-high 11 saves as the Missouri Southern Lions went on the road and defeated the Northeastern State Riverhawks 3-1 in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 24) in Tahlequah, Okla.

The win means the Lions win the season series against NSU 1-0-1 after playing the Riverhawks to a 1-1 tie earlier this year in Joplin.

Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) put the Lions on the board in the 27th minute by putting in a shot off a keeper deflection.

The Lions (4-9-2, 1-5-1 SSC) then scored a pair of goals less than two minutes apart from the conclusion of the first half through the beginning moments of the second half.  Jared Prater (Springfield, Mo.) gave Southern a 2-0 lead before halftime with an assist from Mike Bayless (Lansing, Kan.) on a shot from 15 yards out on the far post at the 44:46 mark.

Trent Baker (Oklahoma City, Okla.) then wasted little time getting the Lions untracked in the second half by taking advantage of a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper just 1:10 into the second stanza for the third Southern goal of the match.

The lone NSU goal came at the 50:27 point of the second half when Chance Foutch found the net on a shot from 30 yards away on the far post.

The Lions will conclude the 2007 season by celebrating Senior night against the No. 8-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs on Friday night (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. at Hal Bodon Field.  The Mustangs currently hold down the top spot in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings.
