Lions conclude season with 4-1 loss to eighth ranked Midwestern State

Joplin, Mo.. -- The No. 8-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Missouri Southern Lions 4-1 on Senior Night in Southwest Soccer Conference action Friday night (Oct. 26) at Hal Bodon Field.

Senior Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) started Senior Night off with a bang by knocking in a shot from about 15 yards out that found the net in the 14th minute.

The Mustangs (14-2, 5-0 SSC) tied the score six minutes later with a goal from Estevao Alexandre off an assist from Brian Martinez at the 20:16 mark.

Ahmad Ihmeidan game MWSU the lead just 6:40 later with a score from Tyler Murphy to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead they would take into halftime.

Daniel Brown and Robert Swann provided insurance goals for the Mustangs in the 66th and 73rd minute respectively of the second half.

Midwestern held a 17-7 edge in overall shot-attempts.  Stoessel led the Lions (4-10-2, 1-6-1 SSC) with three shots.

Jon Hansen (Wichita, Kan.) recorded four saves for Southern, while Jeremy Turner made five stops for Midwestern before giving way to William Freeman with 10:38 remaining.
