Sutherland's hat trick leads #2 Midwestern State to 5-0 win over Lions

Joplin, Mo. -- Craig Sutherland scored three goals and Ahmad Ihmeidan dished out two assists as the No. 2-ranked Midwestern State Mustangs defeated the Missouri Southern Lions 5-0 in Southwest Soccer Conference action Sunday afternoon (Oct. 12) at Hal Bodon Field.

The Lions (0-11-1, 0-3-1 SSC) played the Mustangs even for much of the first half until Sutherland retrieved a loose ball in the box and put it in the net during the 33rd minute.

Ihmeidan later assisted on a goal by Rob Humphrey at the 53:35 mark and then on Sutherland's second goal seven minutes later to give the Mustangs (10-1, 2-0 SSC) a 3-0 advantage.

The Mustangs then added two more goals just a minute apart as Nick Auditore scored in the 76th minute and Sutherland completed the hat trick from 10 yards away at the 77:25 mark.

The Lions were out-shot 24-2 overall and 17-1 on-goal.  Austin Whiles had the Lions' two shots, with one on-goal.

Jon Hansen recorded 12 saves for the Lions, while MSU goalkeeper William Freeman made one stop before exiting in favor of Matt Markusen in the 62nd minute.

The Lions will continue their four-game homestand with an SSC matchup with Northeastern State on Wednesday evening (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m.
