FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions notch first win of season, 1-0 over Northeastern State Joplin, Mo. -- Nate Evans produced the only goal of the match to lead the Missouri Southern Lions to their first victory of the 2008 campaign, 1-0 over the Northeastern State RiverHawks in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup Wednesday night (Oct. 15) at Hal Bodon Field. Evans' score came in the 48th minute on a header from inside the box off a cross from Austin Whiles. Mike Bayless had a match-high seven shots for the Lions (1-11-1, 1-3-1 SSC) as Southern out-shot NSU (2-11, 1-4 SSC) 14-13 overall and 7-6 on-goal. Jon Hansen made six saves for the Lions, including an outstanding, diving stop on a clear shot by NSU's Zach Schmoker in the 51st minute. NSU goalkeeper Chris Jones also recorded six stops. The Lions will now take nine days off before looking to make it two straight wins when they will host West Texas A&M on Friday night (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m.
