FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE West Texas A&M uses big second half to defeat Lions, 4-1 Joplin, Mo. -- The West Texas A&M Buffs scored four unanswered goals, including three in the second half to knock off the Missouri Southern Lions 4-1 in Southwest Soccer Conference action Friday night (Oct. 24) at Fred Hughes Stadium. The Lions (1-12-1, 1-4-1 SSC) broke on top in the 12th minute when Jesse Clevenger scored off an assist from Mike Bayless to put Southern up 1-0. Tommy Nutter answered for the Buffs (9-5, 3-2 SSC) just three minutes later as the Lions committed a foul that led to a set-piece scoring opportunity that Nutter put in the net at the 15:40 mark. The match remained even until Brad Williamson nailed a straight-on shot from 20 yards out that gave the Buffs a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the second half. Victor Olivares then tacked on two goals 13 minutes apart with the first coming on a header from inside the box with an assist from Nutter at the 72:09 mark. Olivares' second goal came off a corner kick from Jacob Jensen in the 85th minute. The Buffs held a 19-4 edge in shots and 11-4 on-goal. Bayless led the Lions with two shots, while Olivares, Itamar Keinan and Ben Everson each had four shots for the Buffs. MSSU goalkeeper Jon Hansen stopped seven shots on the night for the Lions and Sebastian Furness recorded one save for the Buffs. The Lions will wrap up the home portion of their schedule with a 1 p.m. matchup with Eastern New Mexico on Sunday (Oct. 26).
