Lions lose 2-1 to John Brown

Box Score

Joplin, Mo. -- Despite out-shooting the John Brown Golden Eagles 17-12, the Missouri Southern Lions fell 2-1 in their 2008 home-opener on a rainy Tuesday night (Sept. 2) at Hal Bodon Field.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) struck in the opening half with a pair of goals just 10 minutes apart.  The first came at the 11:37 mark on a score from Adrian Jasso off an assist from Jamal Bandeh.

JBU then took a two-goal advantage in the 21st minute when Juan Iraola scored an unassisted tally.

The Lions (0-3) managed to hang around and fought back to within a goal when Mike Bayless found the net from in front of the box off a pass from Greg Edmonds in the 60th minute.

Southern had several scoring opportunities over the final 30 minutes but failed to capitalize and even the score.

The match was emotionally charged, with a combined four yellow-cards and one red-card issued.

Austin Whiles led the Lions with four shot-attempts and Bayless and Edmonds each had three.

Jon Hansen stopped three shots for the Lions, while JBU goalkeeper Spencer Watson made five saves.

The Lions will continue their three-game homestand by hosting Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday night (Sept. 5) at 7 p.m.
