CSU-Pueblo defeats Lions, 3-1

Box Score

Joplin, Mo. -- Robert Kinsey scored two goals to lead the Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves to a 3-1 win over the Missouri Southern Lions Friday afternoon (Sept. 5).  The match was played at Fred Hughes Stadium due to the large amounts of rain at Hal Bodon Field.

The first of Kinsey's goals came in the 24th minute of the first half off an assist from Trevor Martinet.

Kinsey then gave the Thunderwolves a two-goal lead just 1:31 into the second half.

The Lions (0-4) came back within a goal when Greg Edmonds scored on a pass from Stuart Ziegler in the 73rd minute.

Udobong Obotette was then fouled in the box just two minutes later and converted a penalty kick that gave the Thunderwolves their two-goal advantage back.

The Thunderwolves (2-1) out-shot the Lions 16-9 overall after Southern enjoyed a 7-4 shots advantage in the first half.

Mike Bayless led the Lions with three shots.  MSSU goalkeeper Jon Hansen and CSU-Pueblo keeper Chris Smith each made six saves in the match.

The Lions will next host Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 7) at 11 a.m. The match will again take place at Fred Hughes Stadium.
