Lions fall 2-0 at West Texas A&M

Canyon, Texas -- Itamar Keinan and Ben Everson each scored a goal and dished out an assist to lead the West Texas A&M Buffs to a 2-0 win over the Missouri Southern Lions in a Southwest Soccer Conference matchup Sunday afternoon (Sept. 21) in Canyon, Texas.

After a scoreless first half, Keinan got the Buffs (5-1, 2-0 SSC) going with a shot from three yards out on a pass from Everson just two minutes into the second half.

Keinan then assisted on Everson's goal from four yards away in the 75th minute to give the Buffs the two-goal victory.

The Lions (0-7-1, 0-2-1 SSC) stayed close throughout the match despite being out-shot 17-5 overall, including a 14-3 bulge in the second half. The Buffs held an 8-2 edge in shots-on-goal.

Freshman Stuart Ziegler had a team-high two shots for the Lions, while Everson led the Buffs with six shots.

Jon Hansen made six saves for Southern and Buffs' goalkeeper Sebastian Furness stopped two shots.

The Lions will next have a non-conference outing just an hour north up Interstate-44 against Drury in Springfield, Mo. The match is scheduled for Wednesday night (Sept. 24) at 7 p.m.
