Drury defeats Lions, 5-0

Springfield, Mo. -- Marco Cherisma and Michah Whorton each scored two goals as the Drury Panthers remained unbeaten in a 5-0 win over the Missouri Southern Lions Wednesday night (Sept. 24) in Springfield, Mo.

Ben Taylor also had three assists for the Panthers (7-0), including helping on the first two goals.  Peter Higgins got the Panthers going early with a goal from two yards out just five minutes into the match.

Taylor then assisted on Cherisma's first goal eight minutes later, a mirror image of the first goal except from three yards away.

Cherisma later gave the Panthers a 3-0 advantage off an assist from Steve Wilczewski at the 31:53 mark.

Whorton added a pair of goals in a four-minute stretch in the 78th and 82nd minute of the second half to wrap it up for the Panthers.

Greg Edmonds and Jesse Clevenger each recorded a shot for Southern, with Ben Pantzlaff registering the only shot-on-goal.

Jon Hansen stopped four shots for the Lions, while Drury goalkeeper Logan Hoffman made one save before giving way to Michael Lassen for the final 22 minutes of the match.

The Lions will next return home to host Newman in another non-conference tilt on Saturday night (Sept. 27) at 7 p.m.
