Southern places four on All-SSC squad

Juniors Neil Stoessel (Papillion, Neb.) and Blake Wright (Conway, Ark.) have been named to the All-Southwest Soccer Conference first team, while senior Travis Haight (Sioux Falls, S.D.) earned second-team honors and Pat Kelley (Conway, Ark.) was an honorable mention selection.

Stoessel is a first-team selection for the second consecutive year after scoring one goal and dishing out one assist this season for the Lions, with the goal being a game-winner off a penalty kick against Truman (9-22-06). Stoessel led the Lions with 27 shot-attempts and ranked second on the team with nine shots-on-goal.

Wright, a second-team selection the past two seasons, started all 18 matches and gave a solid defensive effort throughout the season that led to the Lions posting five shutouts.

Haight is a second-team pick for the third straight season as he ends his career at Southern as the Lions' all-time leader in saves and goalkeeper minutes.  This season, Haight ranks first in the SSC in saves (91) and is tied for the league lead with 5 shutouts on the year. Haight's five shutouts are tied for third in a single-season at Southern and his 11 career shutouts rank third all-time.

Kelley is an honorable mention performer after tying for the team lead with two goals this season.  One of Kelley's goals was the game-winning tally in a Lions' road victory at Colorado-Colorado Springs (10-6-06).  Kelley's other score came on a successful penalty kick attempt in a 2-1 loss to Drury (10-24-06) in the Lions' season-finale.

The Lions, under fourth-year head coach Kiley Cirillo, finished the 2006 season 3-11-4 overall and 0-6-2 in the SSC.
