FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern picked fifth in SSC Preseason Poll Richardson, Texas - The Missouri Southern Lions have been tabbed to finish fifth in the Southwest Soccer Conference preseason poll announced by the league office in late July. Midwestern State, the defending conference champs, was picked to finish first with 64 points and received 12 of the 13 first-place votes. Northeastern State and West Texas A&M were tied for second with 45 points, with WTAMU garnering the other first-place vote. Eastern New Mexico was next in the fourth slot with 25 points, while the Lions notched 16 points to wind up fifth. MSU won the conference championship last season with a 9-1-0 SSC record. The Lions will begin the 2007 campaign at home vs. Delta State (Miss.) on Aug. 24 and will open SSC action with a home date against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 7. The Lions, under fifth-year head coach Kiley Cirillo, welcome back seven starters and 11 letterwinners from a squad that finished the 2006 season 3-11-4 overall and 0-6-2 in the SSC.
