FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 10, 2006 Two Lions on All-MIAA softball team WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Two freshman members of the Missouri Southern State University softball team were named to the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association squad announced Monday (May 8). Angie Turner (Springdale, Ark.) was the only catcher and the lone freshman among the 14 players named to the first-team. Pitcher Lacee Craig (Bartlesville, Okla.) was selected for honorable mention accolades. Turner was one of six Lions to start all 40 games this season. A true freshman in 2006, she led the team in numerous offensive categories, including batting (.364), runs (18), hits (43), triples (3), home runs (4), slugging (.576), walks (22) and on-base percentage (.464). Turner also finished second on the team with seven doubles and 16 RBI and paced the team with 12 multi-hit games. Her 11-game hitting streak, from March 7-25, was also a team season-best. Behind the plate, Turner threw out 15 attempting to steal. Craig, a 5-foot-10 right-hander, was one of Missouri Southern's top pitchers in 2006. She finished with a team-high 12 wins (12-8) this season while ranking second on the squad with a 2.23 earned run average. Craig also led the team with 24 appearances, 17 starts, 11 complete games, two shutouts, 128.2 innings pitched and 79 strikeouts. Her 4.30 strikeouts per seven innings and batting average against (.234) ranked second on the club. Craig pitched a no-hitter in her first collegiate start, a 3-0 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State. She also shut out Northeastern (Okla.) State on only two hits on March 25. The Lions finished the 2006 season, their
first under head coach Aron Potter, with a 17-23 overall record and made
their 16th appearance in 17 years in the MIAA Postseason Tournament.
