Lions fall 4-3 in game one of Zenner Tourney, game two suspended due to darkness

Southern Arkansas scored two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and came from behind to defeat Missouri Southern 4-3 today in game one of the Terri (Mathis) Zenner Memorial Tournament. Southern's second game against Arkansas Tech was suspended in the fourth inning due to darkness. Tech was ahead 7-1 at the time.

Southern (2-9) opened up the scoring with three runs in the second after Racheal Bowen singled to start the inning. Kayleigh Cecil sacrificed Bowen to second and Andrea Childs singled up the middle advancing to second on the throw. Bowen ended up at third. JT Taylor then doubled to the left field wall scoring both runners. She later scored on an RBI single from Amanda Godfrey.

SAU (13-9) scored two runs over the final two innings, the go-ahead run coming after Kayla Reed scored on a fielder's choice.

Lacee Craig started and went four and a third innings, striking out five and allowing two earned runs. Tamika Barnes finished the final inning and two thirds, picking up the loss. Bowen was 2-3 with a run scored, while Godfrey was a perfect 3-3 on the day with an RBI. Taylor drove in two and scored once.

Cheyenne Savony went the entire seven innings for the Lady Muleriders. Joanna Jones had two hits for SAU.

The Lions will finish up their suspended game tomorrow morning at 8 am, before facing off with Missouri Rolla at 9 am.
