FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern fell down 7-0 early in the game with Missouri Rolla. Starter Tamika Barnes gave way to Lacee Craig in the second and Craig shut down the Miners for the final six and two thirds of an inning, allowing just two hits and striking out six. Southern's breakout inning came in the fifth, when trailing 7-0, the Lions scored seven in the inning to tie the game. A double to left center from Kayleigh Cecil scored JT Taylor and an RBI single from Amanda Godfrey scored Cecil for the Lion's second run. A bases-clearing triple from Taylor later in the inning scored three and tied the game and the Lions were well on their way to a comeback. Taylor would be the hero again, as with a runner on in the eighth, she homered to left center for the go ahead run. Taylor went 2-3 with two runs and five RBIs in the game. Craig backed up her game one performance with another stellar outing against UMSL as she went the distance, throwing six innings, allowing just three hits and no runs. The Lions scored a run in the third and fourth and six over the final two for the six inning win. Both Racheal Bowen and Andrea Childs went 2-3 with a run and three RBIs. The Lions will be back in action next weekend at the Pittsburg State Tournament. Southern will face Bellevue and Northwestern Oklahoma State on Friday and will start pool play on Saturday. |
