FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Lions (7-12) started the day with a 4-2 win over Pittsburg State in the first game of bracket play. Southern opened up the scoring with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Racheal Bowen hit her first homer of the season for the Lions' first run of the game. JT Taylor followed that up with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Kayleigh Cecil. Pittsburg State scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth to tie the game at two, but Southern tacked on two more in the top of the seventh, via an RBI single from Angie Turner, scoring Kate Brittan and Chasidy Austin. Turner was 2-4 with two RBIs while Brittan and Andrea Childs both had two hits. Lacee Craig went the distance for her fourth win of the season, striking out nine, while allowing only one earned run. Tamika Barnes had her best game as a Lion against Kansas Wesleyan, allowing just one hit and no runs, going the distance to strike out three in a 5-0 win for Southern. The Lions scored two in the first, one in the fourth and another two in the fifth en route to the win. The Lions picked up two unearned runs in the first and Turner drove in Brittan in the fourth to make the score 3-0. After a triple from Cecil to start the fifth, Childs picked up her first homer of the year to give the Lions a 5-0 lead. Barnes threw the shutout for her third win of the season. Childs drove in two, while Cecil and Brittan both had two hits. Southern will next head to Jefferson City to take on Lincoln University in a Tuesday afternoon matchup at 1 pm.
