FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Lions (7-16, 0-2 MIAA) jumped ahead first in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Kate Brittan walked to lead off the game and Emily McPeters reached on a fielder's choice trying to sacrifice Brittan. Both runners moved up a base on an error on the play. After an out, Racheal Bowen doubled down the right field line scoring both runners. Washburn (19-12, 5-1 MIAA) answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third. The Lady Blues added a go-ahead run in the fourth as pitcher Kelly Swygert scattered three hits and held the Lions scoreless for the final six innings. Bowen had a hit and drove in two, while Kayleigh Cecil and Sam Neely had the Lions other two hits. Game two saw a pitcher's duel as Lacee Craig and Kayla Long both threw gems. Craig held Washburn scoreless and had allowed just one hit until the bottom of the sixth when the Lady Blues scored three times. A double, single and a walk loaded the bases. The Lions would get an out at the plate, but the bases remained loaded. A ground out brought home another runner, but with two outs, the Lady Blues' scored two more runs on an error, pushing their lead to 3-0. Long allowed just one hit from Cecil as she struck out four. Craig allowed just one earned run and struck out two in the loss. She retired ten in a row at one point in the game. The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, traveling to Fort Hays State for a double-header beginning at 1 pm.
