Game One Box | Game Two Box

Hays, Kan.  -
The Missouri Southern softball team fell victim to a walk off homer in game one and a four run sixth in game two and dropped two MIAA games today at Fort Hays State by the scores of 3-1 and 5-4.

Southern (7-18, 0-4 MIAA) scored first in both games and picked up a run in the top of the second in game one when JT Taylor stole third and scored on a throwing error from the catcher.

Hays (11-21, 2-0 MIAA) scored a run in the fourth to tie it and with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Tigers got a two run walk-off homer from lead-off hitter Emily Herl, her only hit of the game.

The Lions had hits from Kelli Bax, Angie Turner, Kayleigh Cecil and Amanda Godfrey in the game. Tamika Barnes threw very effectively, allowing just three earned runs and only throwing 77 pitches over six and two thirds of an inning.

The Lions started strong in game two, scoring three in the first and one in the second to go up 4-0 after two innings. Two walks and an error scored both Emily McPeters and Turner on Racheal Bowen's double in the first. Cecil then singled home Bowen. Andrea Childs doubled to lead off the second inning and later scored when Chasidy Austin sacrificed her to third and the throw went past the fielder.

Hays scored a run in the fourth, but broke out for four in the sixth on two hits to take the game.

Lacee Craigh threw five innings, striking out four and walking just one in the loss. Childs had two hits and a run, while McPeters, Bowen, Cecil and Taylor each had a hit.

Southern will get back at it on Tuesday, April 3 with a double-header at Pittsburg State beginning at 5 pm.
