St. Joseph, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern softball team suffered two shutout losses today at the hands of Missouri Western, losing 2-0 in game one and 4-0 in game two in a double-header in St. Joseph.

Southern (10-26, 1-9 MIAA)  starter Lacee Craig allowed just three hits and no earned runs in game one, but suffered the loss as the Lions left eight runners on in a 2-0 loss.

The Griffons (23-16, 7-3 MIAA) scored both of their runs in the second inning of game one. After a single and a sacrifice bunt to start the inning, Western had a runner on second and one out. An error put a runner on first and a double steal of second and home scored the first run. Another stolen base and a walk put runners at the corners and the Griffons' Lauren Sternberg got in a run down between first and second and was eventually tagged out, but not before Lindsey Rizzuti scored the second run of the inning.

Southern got hits from Kate Brittan, Kelli Bax, Emily McPetters, Racheal Bowen and JT Taylor. Craig went the distance and struck out two.

The Lions didn't fare much better in game two as Western scored two runs in the first, one in the second and another in the sixth.

Brittan went 2-3 in the game, while Turner and Bowen had a hit each. Turner walked twice in game two and once in game two for her league-leading 23rd walk of the season.

The Lions will be back at it tomorrow with a double-header at Northwest Missouri.
