Bolivar, Mo. -- The
Missouri Southern softball team picked up two wins today, defeating
Southwest Baptist 11-0 in game one of a non-conference
double-header, then coming from behind with four runs in the top of
the seventh to win the nightcap, 6-4.
The Lions (15-27) scored their runs in bunches in game one, scoring seven in the fifth and four in the seventh. Lacee Craig threw seven innings, striking out three and allowing just four hits to earn her 10th win of the year. Emily McPeters went 2-5 with a run and three RBIs. Kate Brittan drove in two and scored twice, while Kayleigh Cecil and Chasidy Austin both scored twice. Amanda Godfrey had two hits, while Sam Neely had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Tamika Barnes did it on the mound and at the plate in game two. The junior started and went seven innings, scattering eight hits and striking out four. With the Lions trailing 4-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, Southern would score four runs to take the come-from-behind win. With one out, Godfrey singled and moved up to second on an error by the left fielder. Kelli Bax singled behind her. Godfrey would score the first run of the inning on a wild pitch and Brittan drove in Bax to tie the game at four. McPeters had an infield single, then Barnes knocked her first homer of the year, giving the Lions the 6-4 win. Barnes went 2-3 at the plate with a run and three RBIs. McPeters was 2-4 with two runs, while Bax went 2-3 with two runs. Southern will now finish their suspended game with Emporia State this Friday at 10:30 am in Shawnee, Kan. before traveling to Mankato, Minnesota for the MSU - Mankato tournament on Saturday and Sunday. |
