FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Overland Park, Kan. -- The
Missouri Southern softball team had seven players named to the MIAA
Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the league
office today.
To be named to the Honor Roll, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and have at least two terms of attendance at the school. Freshmen are ineligible. Seniors Racheal Bowen and Missy Clark were named to the list for their third and second time, respectively. Bowen graduated last week from Southern. An honorable mention All-MIAA selection, Bowen earned a Health Promotion and Wellness degree and will be attending graduate school at Rockhurst University looking for a masters in physical therapy. Clark is a Secondary Education major and will be finishing up her studies with student teaching next semester. Juniors Kate Brittan and JT Taylor were both named to the team for the second-straight year. Taylor finished third on the team in hitting and doubles, while leading the Lions in triples and stolen bases. Sophomores Lacee Craig, Andrea Childs and Angie Turner make their first appearance on the list. Turner earned her second-straight first-team All-MIAA nod, as well as second-team all-North Central Region selection. She led the Lions in hitting and home runs while finishing second in RBIs and leading the MIAA in walks. Craig was a second-team All-MIAA selection this season after going 11-17 with a 1.90 ERA, good enough for second in the conference. She ranked third in wins, and her 143 strikeouts was second in the league. Childs was fourth in hitting and third in RBIs this year for the Lions. She was one of just two Lions to start in all 48 games played. |
