Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern softball team dropped both games today at the Pittsburg State University Invitational, falling 4-3 to Rogers State and 8-0 to St. Cloud State.

In game one, Southern (1-12) fell behind 4-0 to Rogers State (18-3) after the Hillcats scored a run in the first and three more in the third.

The Lions, however, responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Amanda Godfrey reached on an error and moved to second on a single from Angie Turner. Megan Roark then tried to sacrifice the runners over, but the throw from the catcher went down the right field line, scoring Godfrey and moving Turner to third. Both Roark and Turner scored when Andrea Childs doubled down the left field line.

The Lions hitters had just three hits in the game, as RSU starter Kelly Dunagan struck out 15 in seven innings. Tamika Barnes started for Southern and scattered four hits, holding the Hillcats scoreless for the final four innings.

In the second game, the Lions fell victim to the long ball as St. Cloud State (21-4) hit three homers in an 8-0 win. SCSU's Jennie Gensch hit the first two deep balls, both to left center. The third would come in the sixth after a lineup card error for Southern allowed the first batter of the inning, whom had been retired by Kelli Bax, to be placed back on first after an inaccurate number was found on the line up card.

St. Cloud's Sara Sbragia then took the first pitch she saw and drove it over the fence in left. The Huskies added two more runs in the seventh.

Childs had two hits in the game as Trish Washburn and Barnes both added a hit each.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow playing at noon against Pittsburg State and at 2 pm against Southwest Baptist.
