FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE St. Joseph, Mo. - Despite hitting four more home runs today, the Missouri Southern softball team dropped the final two games at the Missouri Western Tournament, falling 8-5 to Concordia-St. Paul and 11-8 to Wayne State (Neb.). Megan Roark and Angie Turner continued there hot hitting as the duo combined for three long balls in the day's first game. Turner went 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs, while Roark was 2-3 with a homer, double, a run scored and two RBIs. Julie Taylor and Kelli Bax had a hit each. In the Lions' second game, Southern (3-15) got out on top with a run in the first inning. Wayne State (7-10) tied the game with a run in the fourth, but the Lions scored five in the fifth to go on top 6-1. Wayne State scored one more in the bottom half of the inning, but the Lions answered right back with two more in the sixth to lead 8-2. The big blow, however, would come in the bottom of the sixth when Wayne State exploded for nine runs to take the game, 11-8. Roark went 2-4 with a run and four RBIs, adding her third home run of the weekend. Andrea Childs, Lauren Hasty and Bax had two hits each for Southern. Turner had a hit and three RBIs in the game. Roark had a huge weekend, hitting .647 with five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. She scored seven times. Turner hit .563 with three homers, eight RBIs and ten runs scored in the tournament. The Lions will be back in action this Wednesday when they open up MIAA play with a double-header at home against Washburn. First pitch is slated for 3 pm. |
