Lions run into tough pitching and drop two at Central Missouri

Game One Box | Game Two Box

Warrensburg, Mo. -
The Missouri Southern softball team faced two tough pitching performances today as the reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Week no-hit the Lions in game one and the Jennies' game two starter shutout Southern, as well, and Central defeated MSSU 11-0 and 9-0.

The Lions (5-23, 2-5 MIAA) were overpowered in game one as Central's (26-14, 8-2 MIAA) Megan Leonard tossed a no hitter in the opener. The southpaw set a new UCM season record for strikeouts as she struck out 11 Southern hitters in six innings.

Lauryn Berger threw five and a third, striking out one and walking two in the game.

Tamika Barnes started for the Lions in game two and was throwing strong, allowing just one run over the first three innings, but the Jennies scored eight runs over the last three innings to put away the game.

Julie Taylor went 2-3 in the game, while Kelli Bax, Andrea Childs and Barnes had a hit each.

The Lions will head to Truman this Friday for a double-header, before returning back to Warrensburg to compete in the Central Missouri Invitational this weekend.
