Lions shut out at 21st ranked Emporia State

The Missouri Southern softball team was shutout in both ends of a double-header today at 21st ranked Emporia State, dropping game one, 3-0 and the nightcap, 9-0.

In game one, the Lions (5-25, 2-8 MIAA) were no-hit by the Lady Hornets' (28-13, 7-1 MIAA) Samantha Sheeley as she struck out 10 over seven innings for the Lions.

ESU scored three runs in the fourth on three RBI singles.

Lauryn Berger went six innings for the Lions and struck out one, while walking none.

In game two, Emporia scored four in the first and five in the fifth to defeat the Lions by the run rule.

The Lions had hits from Kayleigh Cecil and Angie Turner as Tamika Barnes and Berger combined to pitch the game.

The Lions will be back in action this Friday as Southern will play host to Missouri Western at 3 pm at Gene Wild Field.
