Lions sign two more for 2009

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball program has announced the signing of two more student athletes for the 2009 season. Joining the Sothern program will be Breanna Volkmann and Kelsey Williams.

Williams is a 5'6 pitcher from Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Arkansas where she started each year for her father, Andy. While at Van Buren, Williams was an All-Conference pick each season, while being named first team All-State in both her junior and senior campaigns. A team captain, Williams had a 24-7 record in her senior season with a 0.61 ERA in 194 innings with 276 strikeouts and only 59 walks. She had 13 shutouts, four no-hitters and nine one-hitter's.

She also hit .326 to lead the team offensively and was second with 18 RBIs and had a team-leading 12 doubles. She holds the Van Buren records for wins in a season, lowest ERA, and strikeouts in a season and career. Both of her parents are graduates of Missouri Western where her father was a quarterback for the football team from 1982-1986. The daughter of Andy and Terry Williams, Kelsey plans to major in physical therapy at Southern.

Volkmann is a 5'2 pitcher from North Kansas City High School in Kansas City. She started fro three years for the Hornets where she was a first team All-Conference, All-District and All-Metro selection. A four-sport athlete at NKCHS, Volkmann lettered in basketball, volleyball and track, where she was a sectional qualifier on the 4x100m team.

The daughter of Ricky and Shelly Volkmann, Breanna is undecided on her future major at Southern.
