Softball drops pair in Arkansas

Monticello, Ark. - The Missouri Southern softball team dropped a pair of contests today in the Arkansas-Monticello tournament, falling 11-3 to Arkansas Tech and then 5-1 to Delta State.

The Lions (1-3) had seven hits from seven different players in game one as the Golden Suns (6-3) avenged a 3-0 defeat to Southern the day prior. Natalie Nelson went 1-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Lions as her hit made the score 4-3 in the second inning. Tech, however hit a three-run home run in the fourth and scored four more runs in the fifth to break open the game.

In the Lions' second game of the day, Delta State (5-1) used a five-run sixth inning to break open a scoreless game. Kelli Bax reached on an error to start the seventh inning and moved to third on a double from Angie Turner. Megan Roark then singled home Bax for the Lions only run.

Southern will return to action tomorrow for the final two games in the tournament, taking on Ouachita Baptist at noon and then Delta State at 4 pm.
