Lions lose two games to Arkansas-Monticello

Bentonville, Ark. - The Missouri Southern softball team dropped both ends of a double-header to Arkansas-Monticello today, falling 8-0 in game one and 9-5 in game two. Both games were played in Bentonville, Ark.

Southern (3-9) fell 8-0 in game one with Breanna Volkmann getting the Lions lone hit when she singled and stole second in the third inning. Whitney Clute started and Tara Kuykendall pitched in relief.

In game two, The Lions struck first with a run in the first when Volkmann walked and later scored on a double from Andrea Childs. UAM (16-1) answered back with five runs in the bottom of the inning off of three hits a walk and an error.

Southern scored three more in the fifth. Volkmann walked and advanced to third on another double from Childs. Angie Turner walked to load the bases and Clute singled home Volkman. Roark would then single to score both Childs and Turner. The Lions scored their final run on an RBI single from Roark in the seventh.

Childs was 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI, while Roark was 2-4 with three RBIs. Clute went 2-4 in the game.

Southern will be back in action when the Lions play host to the MSSU/Pitt State Border Battle Pesented by Chatters next weekend. The Lions open up with a game against Lincoln University on Feb. 27 at 5 pm.
