Lions fall in game one of the 2009 MSSU/PSU Border Battle

The Missouri Southern softball team ran into a strong pitching performance from Lincoln's Olivia Durrell tonight as the Blue Tigers defeated the Lions 8-0 tonight in the first game of the 2009 MSSU/PSU Border Battle presented by Chatters.

The Lions (3-10) had five hits in the game, led by a 2-2 performance from Trish Washburn. Natalie Nelson, Lauren Hasty and Kelli Bax all had a hit each.

Lincoln led scored a run in the second as Lions' starter Whitney Clute dueled with Olivia for five innings. The Blue Tigers, however, broke out for five in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Clute threw five innings, allowing just three earned runs. Kelsey Williams and Tara Kurkendall pitched an inning each in relief.

Southern will conclude the tournament on Sunday, March first with games against Newman at 3 pm and Texas A&M International at 5 pm.
