FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern (3-13) ran into strong pitching in the first game, getting just two hits off of Cameron's (12-10) Carrie Harvey. Trish Washburn and Lauryn Berger picked up a single each for the Lions. Southern's pitching had held Cameron in check over the first three innings, but the Lady Aggies scored one in the fourth and six in the sixth. In game two, Missouri S&T (4-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one, but the Lions scored a run in the second to cut to within two when Megan Roark tripled down the right field line and scored on a single from Tara Kuykendall. S&T scored three more in the third, but the Lions, again fought back and scored two more in their half of the third to cut the score in half. Breanna Volkmann and Andrea Childs reached to start the inning and Trish Washburn walked to load the bases with nobody out. Whitney Clute grounded into a double-play, but Volkmann scored and Childs would score after Roark reached on an error. The Lions added a run in the fifth when Childs doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. She then scored on an RBI single from Washburn. Washburn was 2-3 in the game, with an RBI, while Childs had a hit and scored twice. The Lions will conclude the tournament tomorrow with a game at 1 pm against Fort Hays and a game at 7 pm against Drury. |
