FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern (13-24, 3-3 MIAA) got a solid pitching performance in game one from Tara Kuykendall as the redshirt freshman scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run, throwing all six innings. Kuykendall, however, was out-dueled by Central Missouri (22-8, 6-0 MIAA) starter Meagan Leonard who held the Lions to just one hit in the game, a single from Megan Roark in the fifth. In game two, the Lions scored two runs in the first, but Central scored six in the third to break the game open. Roark had a two-run double in the first to score both Whitney Clute and Trish Washburn. Southern scored three more in the fifth when Natalie Nelson scored Roark with a double and Andrea Childs drove in both Nelson and Lauryn Berger with a double of her own. The Jennies scored two more in the fourth and four in the sixth to put the game away. Roark went 2-3 in the game with two RBIs and a run scored. Childs drove in two, while Washburn had two hits of her own. The Lions will be back in action on April 7 when they travel to Rolla to take on Missouri S&T in a double-header slated to begin at 2 pm. |
