FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball team ran into some tough luck at the plate today and dropped both ends of a double-header by identical scores of 2-0 at Missouri Western in MIAA play this afternoon. Southern (18-33, 6-10 MIAA) hurt themselves in the field in game one as the Lions out hit Western 4-3, but five errors led to both Griffon runs. Andrea Childs had a double and was one of four Lions with a hit each. Whitney Clute started and went six innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, while striking out two. Western (41-8, 14-4 MIAA) scored both runs in the fifth inning as starting pitcher Allison Jones scattered four hits and went the distance. The Lions got a hit each in game two from Kelli Bax and Lauren Hasty, but Western pitcher Jonelle Belger went the distance for the Griffons. Tara Kuykendall threw a complete game for the Lions in game two. Southern will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Truman State for a two-game set. |
