Southern softball earns NFCA Team Academic Award

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball team has earned the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/Girls Got Game Team Academic Award for 2009 and seven different Lions were named scholar athletes as announced by the coaches association.

The Lions, as a team, had a 3.035 GPA in the spring, and ranked 61st nationally in Division II, and third in the MIAA. To be named a scholar athlete each student athlete must maintain a minimum of a 3.5 GPA. Lauryn Berger, Brooke Hurley, Randi Russell, Angie Turner, Natalie Nelson, Emily Gove and Amanda Godfrey each earned the honor.

The Lions will begin the 2010 season at the Southwestern Oklahoma Kickoff on February 13 and 14.
