FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Lions remain undefeated with two wins in final day at MSSU Invite The Missouri Southern volleyball team continued its winning ways with two victories today, defeating the University of Mary in four games and sending home Henderson State University in five games. Southern moves to 4-0 on the season. The Lions won games one and two against Mary by the scores of 30-26 and 30-23, but dropped game three by the score of 28-30. Southern rebounded, however, and won game four convincingly 30-16. Tessa Woods had 19 kills and only one error, hitting for .514. She added four blocks. Sarah Hoffmeister and Ashley Mehrer had 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while Hoffmeister collected 19 digs. Megan Norman had 22 digs and and Ashley Hill added 14 of her own. Ashley Wright had eight blocks, while Sarah Joles had 35 assists. Southern played some of its best volleyball in the first game against Henderson State, hitting .514 as a team, and limiting the Lady Reddies to a .029 attack average. The Lions won game one 30-12 and squeaked out game two by the score of 34-32. Henderson, however, came back and won games three and four by the scores of 33-31 and 30-23. The Lions took the decisive game five by the score of 15-9 to win three games to two. Woods, again shined, hitting .528 for the match with 19 kills, no errors, seven digs and five blocks. Mehrer, Wright, and Hill added 15, 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Joles had 43 assists, while Erin Mitchem added 18 of her own. Amy Barnicle had 17 digs. Henderson's Bethany Wright and Raveon Harrowa had 28 digs each, while Harrowa added 21 kills and three blocks. Southern won the Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record. Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northwest Missouri both finished 3-1, while Southwest Baptist finished 2-2. Missouri-St. Louis, Colorado State-Pueblo and Henderson State all finished 1-3, while the University of Mary went 0-4. The Lions will be back in action this Tuesday night against Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m. in Young Gym.
