Tessa Woods named MIAA Hitter of the Week

Overland Park, KS -- Senior hitter Tessa Woods (Joplin, Mo/Joplin HS) has been named the Mid American Intercollegiate Athletics Association Hitter of the Week as announced by the league office today.

Woods, a 6-foot-3 senior transfer from Missouri State, hit .476 (64 kills, 5 errors, 124 attempts) and averaged 4.37 points per game as the Lions opened a season with four wins at the Missouri Southern Invitational last weekend.

She posted back-to-back 21-point efforts in action on Saturday (Aug. 26). Against Mary (N.D.), Woods hit .514 (19-1-35) and added four block assists. She hit .528 (19-0-36) in the next match against Henderson (Ark.) State with four block assists, seven digs and two assists.

Woods opened the season by hitting .438 (16-2-32) and scoring 17.5 points (16 kills, 3 block assists) against MIAA-foe Northwest Missouri State. She also added six digs and two assists against the Bearcats. She had 10.5 points (10 kills, 1 block assist) and hit .381 (10-2-21) in a sweep of Missouri-St. Louis.

Woods and the Lions will be back in action on Tuesday, August 29 at 6 p.m. when they play host to Arkansas Tech University in Young Gymnasium.
