Lions sweep Arkansas Tech and move to 5-0

Joplin, MO -- Ashely Hill and Ashley Mehrer had ten kills each, while Megan Norman added ten digs and the Missouri Southern Lions volleyball team swept visiting Arkansas Tech three games to none Tuesday night in Young Gym. Individual game scores were 30-23, 30-22, and 30-22.

Southern capitalized on poor hitting from Tech as the Golden Suns hit just .061 as a team including a negative .026 in game one. The Lions hit .483 in game two, and finished it off strong in game three.

Mehrer had 10 kills and five blocks, while hitting .381 for the match. Hill added 10 kills and eight digs, while Tessa Woods had nine kills and hit .438. Sarah Joles and Erin Mitchem had 22 and 12 assists, respectively. Ashley Wright hit .625 in the match with six kills and only one error.

Southern will be back in action this weekend when they travel to the Quincy University Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Lions will take on Northwoods (Michigan) and the host Quincy on day one, while facing off with Missouri-St. Louis and Southwest Baptist in day two.

Southern is off to its best start since the 2003 season when the team started 5-0. The best start in school history is 16-0, set in 1986 when the team finished 47-10.
